I love the special edition Frappuccinos that Starbucks has been releasing over the past few holidays. The drinks are a fun departure from the usual menu and also make consumers feel like they’re onto a little secret by ordering off-menu. Last year, Starbucks brought out the Franken-Frappuccino for Halloween. This year, it is the Frappula Frappuccino – or the Frappula-ccino, as I prefer to call it. The Dracula-themed blended drink starts with a white chocolate frappuccino base that is poured into a cup that already has a couple of pumps of mocha syrup at the bottom. Raspberry syrup is drizzled around the rim so that it runs down the side of the cup like delicious “blood” and the whole thing is topped with whipped cream.

I loved the look of the drink – especially the raspberry drizzle that my barista thoughtfully added to the top of the whipped cream – and enjoyed tasting all three layers both separately and together. To be completely honest, I can’t remember the last time that I had a white chocolate mocha frappuccino, so it was nice to taste one again. It had a nice creaminess to it and went well with both the raspberry sauce and the mocha sauce that were in the drink. I think it blended better with the chocolate than a vanilla bean base would have done and it made the drink a little bit more complex. I’m a fan and I would order this one again!

My drink came with an illustration of vampire fangs on the side (very appropriate), but you may have to sweet-talk your barista into decorating your cup. It will be available through 10/31, so head out and pick one up before it’s too late.
